“I grew up in a country of war, difficulties and problems – yet I miss that country...the accidents I was facing.” With these words, Dr. Sherzai emphasizes life’s sum total: accident. By incident of birth or happenstance, refugee claimants must start anew, constructing some semblance of life from their situation. Half a Chance presents images of refugee experiences in Toronto, which relates fright, flight, fortitude and, on occasion, the finality of home found.
